Getting married at St Mary’s or St Peter’s

A wedding at St Peter's Church, Nottingham

Can I get married at one of your churches?

If you live in the Lace Market, the Victoria Centre, The Park or any other part of the parish you are generally entitled to get married at St Mary’s, St Peter’s or All Saints’. (The parish area covers a large amount of the city centre and some surrounding districts, please ring the Parish Office to enquire.)

If you live further afield there are two possible options:

  1. Attend one of the churches for six months and become a regular member of the congregation.
  2. Obtain a Special Licence from the Archbishop of Canterbury. To do this you would need to demonstrate some close family connection with the church where you wish to get married.

By far the easiest way is to attend church… and most couples find they enjoy it greatly!

Being divorced does not necessarily create a difficulty, but please mention your circumstances to the clergy.

Do I have to be baptised?

The simple answer is “no”. However, your marriage in church will be a Christian service and this may be the opportunity to think seriously about what it means to be a Christian. Talk to the Clergy about being baptised or any other matters of faith.
