Fabric (St P, AS)

St Peter’s and All Saints’ Site Committee

Membership: the Rector, Brian Dunn, Trevor Davys, John Lord, Rodney Fogg, Mark Simons, Wendy Pearce, Philip Jarvis.

The committee meets quarterly and is responsible to the Finance Committee for the maintenance and upkeep of St Peter’s Church and Centre, All Saints Church and related matters. The report on St Peter’s garden follows. The committee is also responsible to the PCC for Health and Safety.

We mainly deal with the constantly recurring matters which arise in connection with the upkeep of such buildings - window breakages, roof leaks, gutter clearance etc. – but the following more significant items have arisen during the last year:

  • Refelting the St James Room roof
  • Improvement and decoration of the St Peter’s church toilets
  • Clearance of the St Peter’s crypt
  • St Peter’s interior lighting has largely been replaced

All Saints high level gutters and downpipes (north side) have been cleared and renewed where necessary, so that the longstanding water ingress discolouring the nave ceiling has been stopped. Also the ground level rainwater gulleys and pipes on the north side have been cleared out. The architect has completed the quinquennial report on the All Saints fabric, which we have reviewed.

At St Peter’s a small area of stonework was damaged by vandals who set light to wheelie bins put against the wall, and remedial work, covered by insurance, has been done.

The police have been more active in trying to counter anti-social behaviour in the churchyard, and we have met with them and the adjoining owners to discuss remedial action.

At both churches lead has been marked with anti-theft fluid.

Health and Safety work has continued; a fire safety policy, and fire procedures and evacuation plan was drawn up, and a fire training day took place on 17 October 2007.
